Bank of Ireland Inter-Firms Tournament 2007

Sponsored by Bank of Ireland

The annual Bank of Ireland Inter Firms took place in the club during the month of May with the finals taking place on Sunday 20th May, 2007. This year 150  teams entered with a total of 643 participants (including subs) actually playing. Some interesting statistics for you.We used 243 tennis balls. There were a total of  516 matches played consisting of a total of 8,241 games. The website had a total of 2,212 unique hits over the two weeks which is as many as the 6 months before that.

During the course of the two weeks we were very lucky to have avoided any heavy rain which meant that all matches were able to be played on schedule. It was capped off with some fabulous sunny weather on Finals Day The Inter Firms is renowned for not just being a tennis competition, it is also a great social occasion where beginners as well as seasoned veterans can get out on the courts, have a game of tennis and then relax afterwards in the bar over some good food, drink and entertainment.  Over the two weeks we had some wonderful nights of entertainment and many thanks go to all the bands and individuals who performed and assisted. The Texas Hold 'Em evening sponsored by David McCarthy and The Table Quiz sponsored by Tom Murphy Car Sales standout as particularly memorable.

Congratulations are due to all the winners, runners-up and all the teams who played. Unfortunately there can only be one winner however thanks are due to everyone for making the competition so much fun. As usual these competitions would not be possible without the continued support of our sponsors. On this occasion we would like to sincerely thank our main sponsor Bank of Ireland, Mr. Pat Cullinane (manager) and all the staff of Bank of Ireland Waterford for their very generous and continued support. Thank you. Also thanks to all the individual sponsors for the entertainment events and to Waterford Crystal for their assistance in providing all the prizes that were so beautifully displayed on the night. Thank you all!

CHARITY AMERICAN TOURNAMENT
in aid of
I.S.P.C.C.

On Thursday 24th May a charity American Tournament was held in aid of the ISPCC. The event was a great success with over 85 players of all skill levels turning out for a night of tennis, great food and entertainment. All the food was donated by local businesses, Dawn Meats, Gerry Walsh Fruit & Veg, Ardkeen Stores and Paula Prendiville Catering. The culinary skills of Stan Leslie, Brendan Heylin and Eddie Farrell were put to a stern test in the kitchen. One hungry competitor was heard to enquire "Could I have my steak rare please" To which the  reply was "You'll get what you're given!"

After the prizes of St. Anne's Tennis Club Polo shirts were presented to all the winners a raffle was held for a huge variety of prizes - again all supplied courtesy of local businesses - Alfie Hale Sports, Vodafone, Clem Jacob Hire, Sonomi Leslie Aromatherapy Massage, Catherine Hannon Make-up, Apex Fire, Ardkeen Stores, Boston Cleaners, Island Lane Jewellers and Woodland Sports and Leisure Center. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Over Euro 1,500 was raised on the night for the charity.
