CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2005
Sponsored by Mulligans Chemists
The Senior Club Championships took place in the club from Friday, 23rd September until Saturday 1st October 2005. Over 175 participants entered the various competitions and despite the sometimes inclement (very inclement on occasion!) weather a fantastic competition and great enjoyment was had by all.
This year marked the first time the club presented its new silver perpetual trophies for competition and many competitors commented on how well they looked. Great praise should go to the committee who made the decision to purchase the cups and to increase the profile of the annual club showcase event. The presentation took place on Saturday night in the clubhouse with prizes being presented by Club Chairman, Pat Sheridan and Club President, Paddy Murphy. Photos of all the winners and runners up can be seen in the photogallery
This also marked the first time that the George Kinsella Memorial Cup was presented to the winner of the B Mens Singles event. Paul Furlong was the eventual winner and commented that he was delighted to be the inaugural winner.

As usual thanks are due to Michelle for her superb administration of the event. Without her skill in managing the schedule it would be impossible to complete the events on time....Thanks Michelle! Also, thanks to Michael and Debbie behind the bar for ensuring all players were well hydrated, to Phyllis Furlong and Robert Leslie for lending their culinary skills in the kitchen on semi-finals night and to the multitude of volunteers who helped out by manning the tournament desk every night during the week - Marilyn O'Riordan, Micheal O'Riordan, Donal McBride, Denis O'Shea, Christy Kelly, Brendan Heylin, Ursula Walsh, Angela Moriarty, Tony Whelan, David Dawson, Robert Leslie, Stan Leslie, Thea O'Shea, Cliona Rafter, Jean Brosnan & Sheila Kiersey. Thank you everybody!
Finally, a word to the sponsors Mulligans Chemists. Without our sponsors it would be impossible to run events like this. We are indeed extremely grateful to you for your generosity and hope that we can call on you again. It should also be noted that both Ronan and Garvan Mulligan raised their games and came out winners in both Mens Singles and Doubles competitions. Well done Gentlemen!

From L-R: Club President Paddy Murphy, Club Chairman Pat Sheridan, Club Administrator Michelle Kirby, Edward McBride, John Sexton, Club Captain Bryan Morrison
Following the highly successful and enjoyable American tournament held on Saturday, 17th September the Club was delighted to present Mr. Edward McBride, representing Chernobyl Aid Ireland, a cheque for €2,533 as proceeds from the night. This is a very worthwhile charity and Edward commented that the proceeds will pay for dental treatment for all the children in the orphanage for over one year! St. Anne's is delighted to be associated with such a worthwhile cause and wishes Edward, John and the rest of his colleagues every success with their future endeavours on behalf of the children of Chernobyl. The committee would like to thank all the members for turning out on the night and making the event such a huge success....Thank you everyone!
